Bobby tornou-se conhecido nacionalmente após seis aparições vencedoras no programa de TV “Opportunity Knocks!”, recebendo ao longo do caminho o prêmio Variety Club of Great Britain de “Melhor Novo Artista de 1972”. Isto foi apresentado a ele pelo falecido Lord Mountbatten da Birmânia e marcou a primeira de muitas aparições perante membros da Família Real.
